Kindergarten

Kindergarten Class at Our Savior Lutheran is from 9:00 to 2:00. During the school day, students will experience age-appropriate, hands-on activities and games that follow the Illinois State Board of Education’s guidelines for learning.

Mathematics: A Beka
• Beginning mathematical skills through an “activity-based approach to developing concepts”
with the use of a variety of manipulative and games.
• Review the basic shapes and colors
• Patterning, graphing, estimating, sorting and measuring
• Recognize, count and write numbers 0-100
• Count numbers 0-100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
• Do addition and subtraction problems
• Time telling skills to the hour, half-hour and quarter hour
• Recognize the penny, nickel, dime and quarter and understand their worth

Language Arts
• Learn to recognize each letter and sound of the alphabet
• Learn to write all the uppercase and lowercase letters from memory
• Proper letter formation
• Blend letters to make words
• Write words using the phonetic sounds
• Write sentences with basic punctuation; Capital letter, period, question mark
• Read phonetic readers and beginning comprehension
• Memorization of sight words
• Accelerated Reader, as appropriate
• Journal writing
